It's Not What You Think
Posted by Stephen Green  ·  16 June 2004

You've probably already seen the story describing the al Qaeda videotape of hostage Paul Johnson. But you might have missed this part of it:

The tape on the Web site, , showed a hooded man read a statement and holding an AK-47 rifle. As the man was reading, a subtitle on the screen identified him as al-Moqrin.http://www.hostinganime.com/sout18/

His statement was similar to a printed message on the Web site that carried the name of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. It said the group gave Saudi authorities 72 hours - by Friday - to release "mujahadeen" militants or it would kill the hostage.

Postmodern terror isn't about taking hostages and making demands:

Remember that al Qaeda audiotape delivered to CNN, saying "No Jews in Saudi Arabia, or we start blowing up your ships"? Remember when Osama made that chilling video, saying he'd truck bomb American embassies if we didn't pull out of the Middle East? Remember 9/11/2001, when Arab hijackers took over four American airliners, and threatened to ram them into office towers if we didn't institute sharia here in America?

Of course you don't. Those things never happened. Our attackers are not, by our lights, rational. They don't kill to get what they want. They don't kill to further their agenda. They kill for the sake of killing. They turn themselves into bombs to win Allah's approval. They murder because they are holy and we are infidels and that's just the way things gotta be.

I don't buy that the Paul Johnson video is a ransom message. I have the sick feeling Mr. Johnson is already dead.

UPDATE: Joe Gandelman has more.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Even more from Wizbang.

Comments

I think you're right and we've yet to see the video.

If this is the case, it suggests one of two things:

1) The enemy is becoming nimbler and able to multi-task. "We'll have our terror and maybe the fools will give us more."

2) They've minimized their goals in the face of our superior capabilities.

By all means, let's hope it's really number 2 while we prepare for number 1.

how many more deaths will it take before the public realizes what were dealing with

Well if it's a loosing battle, then let's play eye for an eye... I ain't scared. Let's start chopp'n off their heads, and let's stop feed'n the prisoners... They keep showing that how they deal with problems. They won't stop beheading Americans if we convices our service men for abusing theirs. They'll just keep wanting more and more... What do we do about that?

I say we rub them down in pig's blood, make them eat nothing but ham, bacon, and pork chops, and then pork rinds for snacks. If they refuse to eat, let them starve. We are "offering" food, so they can either choose to eat and be damned to hell for touching a pig, or starve themselves.
I also agree, time for an eye for an eye. US needs to close off - no more Middle Easterns comming in from ANY country, even through a third country, and all of them that are here should be found and sent back to where they came from , no questions. They like to come here and complain we are there bombing their country, then go back! We are loosing innocent lives who love our country and love freedom to liberate their slautering governments, then let them eat pork and send them packing where they came from. I don't care anymore if they are third or forth generation here.... send them all back!!!!

I believe Paul Johnson was already dead as well. They really don't care if we even meet their demands, they just want to kill, and it further proves my point that if they can't find an American, they'll pick a hostage from North Korea, or whomever that doesn't agree. They are that desperate to kill, because they have known nothing else about life but to kill. These beheading fundamentalists are sick dogs that should be put down.
