He did, arguably, muff a minor point on foreign participation in Afghanistan. The Japanese provided naval support. Not a big thing to us, but a big, big leap for them.
He muffed a major point as well: the French Air Force flew 10% of all sorties over Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom.
