FNC just announced that Gephardt is dropping out of the race, and may have an interview with him later tonight.
The only remaining question is, will he even stay in Congress? He gave up his Minority Leader post last year to devote more energy (some would say too much, given how many votes he's missed) to running for President.
His presidential dreams are over, his leadership post is gone, and so is his hope of someday becoming Speaker of the House.
Bet on a nasty fight for Missouri's 3rd District.
I would hope you're right, Stephen, but the Republicans haven't fielded anyone credible against him in the last few elections.
Debbie Wheelehan? Don Federer?
That seat's still his if he wants it.
Needless to say, Il Dick was my congressman for a while.... until I moved to Jim Talent/ Todd Akin country.
I think you are right, Stephen. Gephardt will not run for re-election. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigned before the end of his term, if a good enough job offer comes his way. It should - the unions owe it to him after years of carrying their water.
He's got his millions and and hefty pension compliments of the US taxpayer.
He can now hang out w/his billionaire friend.
Hell, Dick will hang out with his Teamster buddies down at the corner bar drinking Bud straight from the bottle. Right?
Mr. Gephardt announced long ago that he was not running for reelection to his house seat, regardless of how his presidential campaign turned out.
With the recent death of Buzz Westphal and the retirement of Mr. Gephardt, the two most powerful Democrats in South County are gone. Should be interesting...
