Also from Sully, the latest madness found on IndyMedia:

(I've saved the Photoshop image here, in case they pull it. As always, click for the full-size version.)

UPDATE: For those who asked, here's who the Myrmidon were.

Don't miss this one, too!

That's SICK.

Posted by: glyph at January 12, 2004 06:46 AM

Unusual Nazis, to have a black in their unit. But hey, this is Indymedia: nobody expects consistency or accuracy.

Posted by: Brown Line at January 12, 2004 06:54 AM

Strange -- They made the woman GI a Nazi but not the white male behind her. One can't say about the black GI. Is it possible these idiots have an anti-woman agenda??

George

Posted by: George at January 12, 2004 06:55 AM

George, I suspect they're just really bad with Photoshop. Or they followed the lead of the brilliantly perceptive liberal commentators who complained that there were no women on the cover.

Posted by: Bryan C at January 12, 2004 07:00 AM

Yes, they made both the male GI's nazi's also. Note the SS Death's Head insignia on all three helmets.

Disgusting and infantile is the kindest term I can apply to this bit of 'inspired' photoshop work.

So, it was made by an Austrian? If so, we may have a case of psychological projection here.

Posted by: A E Hansen at January 12, 2004 07:27 AM

More mischeif by Karl Rove? Every time one of these ads or photoshopped images comes out, it's like a little dagger through the heart of the Democratic party.

I'm sure that Nazi comparisons will help the Dems swing voters in the largest voting demographic: the elderly. You know, the ones who were alive while Hitler was actually around? Good plan, guys.

Posted by: Mike M at January 12, 2004 07:28 AM

I like the definition link.

"Myrmidon: A loyal follower, especially one who executes orders without question, protest, or pity."

Because this is just awful. Who in the world would want a military that does what its civilian leaders order without questioning its authority to do so; and that effectively carries out those orders to achieve rapid, decisive victory?

Apparently not Indymedia.

Posted by: Brian J. Dunn (The Dignified Rant) at January 12, 2004 07:38 AM

When I saw this, I actually made an audible gasp that sounded so insincere Soap Opera actors could make it sound more credible. I have to say that I am shocked and angry. This is a complete outrage! As an American I respect people's freedom of speech and expression, but an out and out slight against servicemen goes too far. I think that the soldiers on the cover of time magazine ought to have the right to sue the "artist" who rendered this picture.

Posted by: Dkelsmith at January 12, 2004 07:49 AM

People should start google bombing sites like this with appropriately crafted phrases such as "miserable piece of shit" or "You're not helping, Moron."

Posted by: None at January 12, 2004 08:05 AM

FYI - It was perkey Katie (look at my gums) Couric who raged about their being no womym until she was of course corrected, and then she went on to vent her spleen about some other idiotic matter.

Posted by: hen at January 12, 2004 08:07 AM

IIRC, according to Greek mythology the Myrmidons were created from a colony of worker ants.

Posted by: Frank IBC at January 12, 2004 08:09 AM

forgive my misspellings - English is only my first language.

Posted by: hen at January 12, 2004 08:10 AM

I was going to vote for Bush but this political analysis is so thoughtful and devastating that I think I'm going to instead hold a chant-in on election day to meditate for the spiritual cleansing of the planet!

Posted by: Mike G at January 12, 2004 08:24 AM

Good plan Mike G. While you're meditating, Bush will be cleansing the planet the old fashioned way by bombing the terrorists to hell.

PS: I know you're kidding, and you know every vote is crucial.

Posted by: erp at January 12, 2004 08:31 AM

I'm an American fighter pilot, and seeing this crap makes my blood boil. I wish Americans would wake up and realize the trash that post this kind of stuff are aided by, funded by, supported by, and encouraged by the "big tent" that is the Democratic Party. Idiots like this Austrian "world citizen" are embraced and respected by liberals. Let your voice be heard at the voting booth...let the DNC know that we are NOT split 50/50.

Posted by: Ivan at January 12, 2004 08:32 AM

"What news of the foul Myrmidons?"

Blackadder: Scattered to the 9 Vectors, my Lord.

"...and the Sheepsqueezers of Splaticon 5? Have they been suck-creamed as a Kwarnbeast's nobbo?"

Blackadder: Well, they're dead, if that's what you mean.

"Plus, Commander, did you vanquish the Nibblepibblies?"

Blackadder: No, My Lord Pigmot, I did not vanquish the Nibblepibblies, because you just made them up.

Posted by: Brian at January 12, 2004 08:57 AM

Brian: Excellent post. I needed a good laugh after seeing that sad picture.

Anyone who references Myrmidons is too sophisticated for my simple brain.

Posted by: ramman at January 12, 2004 09:08 AM

Here in the lunacy of the San Francisco bay area I was stopped at a light and saw a guy on the corner with a huge sign saying "Occupation is not Liberation." Thanks to good weather (my window was down), I heard someone yell from a couple of cars in front of me "Tell that to the people in the mass graves." The guy with the sign continued to look confused...

Posted by: Chrees at January 12, 2004 09:49 AM

Austrians, swastikas, Nazis. Some things never change. Herr Schweisstanitzel is one of those Austrians who can only come to grips with the fact that Hitler was one of them by branding anyone he disagrees with as Nazi. You've been analyzed Herr Schweisstanitzel, time to get help now. Good luck.

Let's all just MoveOn.org

Posted by: DANEgerus at January 12, 2004 10:50 AM

You know, I hate this just as much as all of you, but I must say it has completely lost the power to shock me. If I'd seen it in the buildup to war, I'd have been shaking with rage. Now I see it and say, Ho-hum, some morally blind losers have likened the good guys to Nazis. Again. It's finally just boring.

Anyone remember Dave Barry's description of the leftist protesters outside of (as he would write, I am not making this up) the Democratic Convention of 1988? Rough quote:

"They were in a spittle-emitting rage, accusing everyone--passersby, each other, squirrels--of being 'mother-[f-word]-ing CIA fascists.' They used this expression reflexively, the way cashiers use 'Have a nice day.' And they were very convincing. After listening to them for a few minutes, I was ready to march down to the nearest CIA recruitment center and sign up."

Posted by: JPS at January 12, 2004 11:03 AM

yep, it's a pretty lousy picture.

as to "myrmidon", it's even used in a John Wayne western! With Jimmy Stewart, even!

5 points for guessing the title, 10 for the actor who utters it.

and yes, Dubya all the way. God bless our men and women in their real uniforms.

Wow, looks like the folks at IndyMedia need to take a refresher course on graphics compression. Youch.

Posted by: Tom Sherman at January 12, 2004 12:50 PM

DKelsmith: "I think that the soldiers on the cover of time magazine ought to have the right to sue the "artist" who rendered this picture."
Maybe under Austrian law they could sue.
It would be interesting to know.

Hey Geezer -

Nothin's too good for the man who shot Liberty Valance!

(For the full ten, Edmund O'Brien says it. Gosh I love that movie: "That's my steak, Valance.")
