Still Waiting
Posted by Stephen Green · 11 December 2003
Remember those hopeful protests against terrorism yesterday in Iraq? If you do, it's not because the New York Times wants you to. A glance at their web edition front page yields no links to the story. So I went to the International section. Again, nada. So I scrolled down to the Middle East sub-section, which has the following banners: In Speech, Nobel Winner Rebukes the U.S. Well, OK. . . maybe if you click on the entire Middle East page: Bush Seeks Help of Allies Barred From Iraq Deals By DAVID E. SANGER and DOUGLAS JEHL President Bush asked France, Germany and Russia to forgive Iraq's debts, after they were excluded from reconstruction projects. Nothing there either. So I tried clicking on "MORE Middle East News," which contains the following story about the protests: Kidding. There was no story there, either. Apparently, the fact that thousands of Iraqis in the very heart of Saddam's former capital, chose to express their frustration with terrorism and sabotage, isn't news that's fit to print.

Gee, I though protestors were usually front page news. You know, three sign waving losers show up at a Bush speaking event and they're give marquee treatment. Now thousands of people show up to protest against violence and intimidation and it doesn't even make the news? Noooooo, no adgenda there. You would think that these guys would at least *try* to perpetuate the myth of an objective media. Who was it that thought firing Howell Raines would help this train-wreck of a newspaper? Posted by: Mike M at December 11, 2003 06:50 AMRepeat after me: There is NO liberal media. There is NO liberal media. Good. Now repeat again: There is no liberal bias in the media. There is NO liberal bias in teh media. Eric Alterman Posted by: Dean at December 11, 2003 08:50 AMDon't bother searching the BBC either (like thats a surprise). What did surprise me is the lack of mention in normally reliable papers such as the Telegraph Posted by: Francis at December 11, 2003 10:18 AMI found a reference in a NJ paper and on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) page through a Google News search. But that was it. Surprising, no. Disgusting, yes. Posted by: BeckyJ at December 11, 2003 03:41 PMThe New York Times, all the news that's print to fit. Posted by: Alan Kellogg at December 11, 2003 10:21 PMSince the Iraqi communist party was part of the demonstration, doesn't this render the other marchers dupes and commie sympathizers like any anti-war demonstration with Answer involved. Whassa matter guys? This obviously bogus event was ignored and the wingers have prevailed over the liberal media. You won. But you're still complaining. Strange.
